Gift Aid

The parish runs a Gift Aid scheme as part of the diocesan arrangement. Anyone who pays an amount of UK tax which is more than they contribute to the parish offertory collection can sign a declaration. Payments can be made using numbered envelopes or through a bank standing order. When using the envelopes, there is no need to pay a fixed amount or to pay every week. Donations can be of any amount as and when it is convenient to make them. Records are confidential. The diocese claims back the tax on our behalf (20% of the total donated) and pays it into the parish account after deducting administration costs. The average yearly amount we have received over the last few years is just over £8,000. This is a very good amount but it could easily be so much more if everyone who is eligible paid through the gift aid system.

The Gift Aid coordinator will be pleased to answer any questions or to help with the very simple application form. He can be contacted through Fr Lee or on the Finance and Management email: fc@st-cuthberts.org.

As well as the arrangements for regular contributors, envelopes are available for one-off donations. These can be used for a single amount, and this includes donations for baptisms, weddings and funerals, as well as anything given to parish funds.

Also, the envelopes that many people use to contribute to Cafod have a tear off gift aid slip. If these are completed, they are sent to Cafod and they can claim back the extra 20%.
